The Watertown Fire Department is a combination fire department consisting of 50 members covering approximately 100 square miles, including the City of Watertown and parts of the four townships of Emmet, Milford, Shields, and Watertown. The department provides fire and ALS emergency medical service within its response area. The department also provides ambulance service to the villages of Lowell and Reeseville.  In addition to mutual aid requests, the department also provides paramedic intercepts with surrounding fire departments. The Watertown Fire Department serves the City of Watertown with citizens and safety first as its focus.

The department operates three engines, one ladder, one heavy rescue, three ALS ambulances, two tankers, one grass rig, and four command cars from one fire station. The department averages five or six calls per 24-hour period.  The Watertown Fire Department responds to 2000 calls annually.

In honor of the 150th Anniversary of the Watertown Fire Department, Mr. Ken Riedl, of the Watertown Historical Society, has created a book entitled Watertown Fire Department 1857 to 2007. This 492 page book details our fire department’s history up until the summer of 2007. The book has over one hundred illustrations and photographs of fire department equipment, personnel (past and present), and many of the fires that the department has responded to over the years.
