RECYCLING CENTER UPDATE
Due to budget and personnel cuts, there are no office personnel at the Recycling Center anymore. Therefore, please call the Street Department at (920) 262-4080 if you have any questions or concerns regarding your garbage or recycling pickup. Your curbside service will not change. Our crews pick up Monday through Friday, including holidays. If you are a resident who has been on our Yardwaste Exemption list, or would like to apply to be on this list, please come to the Street Department; 811 S. First Street, to fill out an application. This application has to be filled out annually and there is a $25 charge for this service.
By the time of this newsletter everyone should have received their new Solid Waste and Recycling Carts. We are asking citizens not to set out the Blue Recycling Cart until it is approximately ¾ filled. This request enables us to utilize our current staff and keep our cost to the residents at a minimum. Sanitation and Recycling collection stay the same; sanitation will be picked up every week and recycling will be picked up every other week. However, in the case of inclement weather such as freezing rain, snow storms, etc. you do not have to have your garbage cart out every week if you have room in your cart to go another week. Our intention for these carts is to make things easier for the residents. We want to encourage all residents to recycle more; we are accepting more items such as plastics numbered 1-7, chipboard such as beverage containers, pizza cardboard, cake mix boxes, shoe boxes, etc. You should be recycling paper including flour and sugar bags, mail, including envelopes, and anything that comes with the local and weekend newspapers. If you have shredded paper it is suggested to put it in a bag and then in your recycling cart. We would like to see our recycling increase and reduce our solid waste by 1/3. This will keep our costs that we pay to the landfill down. If you have any questions regarding recycling or solid waste please call the Street Department and we will be glad to assist you.
TRASH CONTAINER ENFORCEMENT –
Trash will only be collected in the garbage carts. Piles outside of the cart will not be accepted. We will however still pick up large one piece items such as mattresses, couches, chairs, etc. Trash and recyclables must be out by 6:00 a.m. on the day of your collection. There are many variables that affect how routes are collected and the times that trucks may be in your area. To avoid getting missed, please do not try to time when trucks will be in your area. Any trash set out in a container that does not comply with the ordinance will not be collected. If you have questions, please contact the Street Department at (920) 262-4080. Residents are reminded that City Ordinance 10.13(2)(d)(2) states that garbage and recycling containers are not to be placed out before 12:00 noon the day before scheduled collections, and no later than 6:00 a.m. the day of collections. Handles on the back side of the lid should be facing the road when placing the cart out for collection. This is opposite what the cart has printed on it; the company automatically prints that on for trucks that have arms that grab the carts. Our trucks do not have these arms so our employees must wheel the carts to the truck and hook it on. Empty containers shall be removed from the curb by 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection. Residents and businesses will still be able to bring items to the Center for drop-off, however we ask that you only do this on Tuesdays from 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. We will make sure someone will be on site during this time.
ELECTRONICS DISPOSAL –
now requires all electronics to be recycled.
Therefore, garbage crews will no longer collect these items at the curb.
We do however have a drop-off available 7 days a week for City residents
to take these items to for disposal at no charge.
This is at the
OIL FILTERS –
State law is now requiring all oil filters and material to absorb oil must be recycled. Therefore, garbage crews will no longer accept these items in the garbage. We do however offer residents a drop-off for these items: There is a barrel near the oil drop-off site at the Recycling Center at 727 W. Cady Street. You can do this 24/7 and there is no charge. There is a metal sign indicating where to place items.
