The City Clerk/Treasurer's Office is the hub of all
activity for the City. There are 5 people in this department that serve the
citizens of Watertown. This office serves as the central processing point for
information as it is handled by various other departments. The bulk of our
activity centers around record retention and payment processing.
Watertown is one of the few cities our size that does our own tax billing. We have a 3 installment plan for payment and have 2 people that serve as account clerks that collect most of these funds. We also collect all payments for water/sewer bills. Each year we collect about $30,000,000 in payments.
We also serve as the payroll/employee benefit division of the City. We have one person that is responsible for this as well as the accounting and paying of all bills. In addition this person serves as a member of our housing rehabilitation committee.
Elections are also managed in our office. Although only held several times per year, this is one of the most important functions this office can perform.
We handle licensing of individuals and business. There are about 300 bartenders, 50 taverns, 4 liquor stores, 100 electricians and various other licensees that we track.
Our receptionist serves as the secretary for the Mayor and Clerk as well as general receptionist for the City. We are often the first contact for people looking for information and do not know where to start.
Our hours are: 8:00am to 4:30 pm Monday - Friday
Please contact us if you have questions. It is our pleasure and duty to serve you.
