The City Clerk/Treasurer's Office coordinates a number of functions including elections, licensing, tax billing and collection, utility bill collection, meeting notices and minutes, maintenance of official records, payroll and human resources, accounts payable, and financial statements.
Watertown is one of the few cities our size that does its own tax billing and collecting. We have a three installment plan with payments due by January 31, April 30, and July 31. We also collect payments for utility bills (water, sewer, storm water, and solid waste). All revenue is recorded by our office along with making all payments for goods and services for all departments. Monthly financial reports are provided to departments and alderpersons.
Many types of licenses for business and individuals are issued by our office. There are currently 52 taverns and approximately 400 beverage operator licenses issued. We also issue all dog and cat licenses. There are currently approximately 1,924 licensed dogs and 346 licensed cats in the City.
Election administration is another major responsibility of this office. Although elections are only held several times per year, this is one of the most important functions of this office.
