Truancy Abatement

The City of Watertown Truancy Abatement Program has one focus: The prevention and reduction of truancy within the Watertown Unified School District.

The Truancy Abatement Program works closely with schools and takes a compassionate problem solving approach with mandatory school attendance laws.

Parents and students are expected to do their part in cooperating to resolve issues relating to truancy. In most cases, a successful outcome will be demonstrated by voluntary compliance with the compulsory school attendance laws. However, in cases that do not result in satisfactory school attendance, municipal charges are filed against the minor and/or the minor’s parent(s) or guardian(s). At all times, the goal is to ensure that all students receive the education they so greatly need to develop into responsible, productive adults.

If you have any questions regarding the Truancy Abatement Program, please contact the program coordinator, Elliott Clark, for more information. We are looking forward to making a positive difference for the children of the Watertown Unified School District each year.
