Welcome to our City of Watertown web site.  As a lifelong resident of the City of Watertown, I know what a great community Watertown is.  We are located about halfway between Milwaukee and Madison, nestled on the banks of the Rock River and are surrounded by beautiful farms and farmland.

While the area around Watertown has strong agricultural ties, Watertown also has a strong industrial and commercial base, with a new West Side Industrial Park up and running.  We have a pleasant mix of single-family and multi-family housing offered in older sections of our City as well as new subdivisions.

There are many areas that set Watertown apart as a great community.  We are a City that offers a complete line of City services.  Our city has many other amenities that make us the complete place to live and work.  Our public school system does a super job of preparing our students for the future.  They employ top administrators, teachers and other staff. The School District offers a complete range of educational offerings and extra curricular activities. The maintenance of their buildings/grounds and other facilities is top notch.

Watertown also has a wide variety of Parochial Schools from elementary through college.  We also boast a fine Watertown campus of Madison Area Technical College.

Watertown Memorial Hospital is a full service medical provider.  They have 50 physicians on staff, and 650 employees.  They have recently completed a Women’s Health Center and formed 2 alliances for advanced health care with St. Luke’s Hospital and UW Hospitals & Clinics.  These alliances are for heart care and cancer treatment.  This will add to the already impressive list of services offered by WMH.

Watertown has a very extensive park system with many neighborhood parks and three large community parks; Brandt/Quirk, Riverside, and Washington Parks.  Brandt Quirk Park is the largest at 167 acres; offering activities varying from hiking, cross-country skiing to tennis, soccer, baseball, softball, skateboarding and even dog walking trails.  Riverside Park, a beautiful park located on the shores of the Rock River, is 29 acres in size and is the oldest park in the city, being established in 1910.  A highlight of Riverside Park is the aquatic center, with water fun, play structure and refreshments available.  Washington Park is 6 acres in size and is an excellent baseball facility with restrooms and a newer play area for toddlers and younger children.

Downtown Watertown continues to thrive and be a vibrant part of our local economy.  Since Watertown was selected for the Main Street Program, there has been renewed interest in economic development downtown.  Watertown’s historic downtown continues to be a good place to shop and live.

We have recently implemented a Tax Incrementally Funded District for the purpose of redeveloping the Rock River corridor of the City.  Many exciting prospects await for the river corridor and our downtown.

There are many reasons to visit or locate to Watertown; housing, industry, schools, health care, shopping, recreation, but our best asset is our people.  They are friendly, energetic and hardworking.  I invite you to come see our City and meet the wonderful citizens of Watertown.

Very sincerely yours,

Ron Krueger

Mayor
