CITY OF WATERTOWN ANNOUNCES APPROVAL OF BID FOR FIRE STATION

Watertown, Wis. (April 4, 2024) –The City of Watertown is pleased to announce a significant update regarding the construction of the new Fire Station. On March 28th, the Public Works Commission and Finance Committee approved entering into contracts to begin the construction of the fire station.

The current scope of work encompasses the construction of the training tower; however, it does not yet include a planned cold storage building. By late summer, when much of the earthwork on the site is complete, the city anticipates having clarity on whether there will be substantial funds left to build the storage building. If sufficient funds are available, the city will seek approval from the appropriate committees.

Furthermore, on the advice of Mass Bros. Construction Co., Inc., three bid packages are being rebid to ensure better diversity in pricing and products. Once the rebidding process is finalized, these three packages, out of a total of 20, will undergo Public Works Commission review.

The construction of the fire station is slated to commence in late April or early May, weather dependent.

Mayor McFarland said of the joint committee decision, “this is a profound milestone for our community and for generations of Watertown residents to come. I’m deeply grateful for the team who has worked on this, for our elected and appointed officials who carefully considered each decision they made, and for our community who so deeply supports our protective services.”

The City of Watertown remains committed to transparent and efficient project management, ensuring the successful completion of the new Fire Station project happens roughly a year from when it begins. The new station will significantly enhance public safety and emergency response capabilities within the community.
